#23 Making changes to an agreement

Something that arises with my clients, especially those running small businesses in creative industries, is that things can often change throughout the duration of a project.

So what do you do when you’ve done the right thing by providing a service agreement to your client and now the project is changing or the client wants to add on extras?

In this episode, I discuss the process of setting out an initial agreement, the importance of having everything in writing and what to do when things change.

I talk about rectifying any misunderstandings with your clients, how your terms and conditions come into play and discuss when it may be necessary to draft up a new agreement altogether.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHERE TO FIND THEM:

[1:40]: The question asked most often - If something changes, do I need to issue a new agreement every time?

[2:30]: The process of setting out the initial agreement

[4:00]: Email is your friend - if you have a conversation with a client and agree to add ons, make sure to send an email afterwards to confirm.

[4:50]: If everything is in writing and there are any issues, you will be covered by what has been laid out and agreed to via the email that you sent

[5:30]: When the email is sent out, this is the chance for the client to understand what they have agreed to and ensure expectations are laid out

[6:45]: If an email is sent out and you’ve misunderstood, this can be rectified too

[7:20]: When is it necessary to draft up a new agreement?

[8:20]: Has the direction or the nature of the work changed so much that a new agreement is required?

[9:15]: Ultimately, it will be a judgement call for you as it is your business and the scope of the agreement will be set out by your terms and conditions as well
