#32 Retreats - Why You Need Ts & Cs

Retreats are a really wonderful way to connect with clients, create special experiences for participants and establish lasting relationships. Managing the expectations of both parties from the outset can go a very long way towards creating a positive experience for everyone involved.

In this episode, I discuss Retreat Terms & Conditions, what they are, what they should include, and why you absolutely need them. I outline the key components of what your Ts & Cs should cover, including disclaimers around what you are promising and not promising, who’s liable for what, refunds and cancellations, and the all-important dispute resolution clause.

Retreats haven’t been on the agenda for many businesses during these uncertain times however, fingers crossed, as we move forward we will resume these great opportunities for connection. If you’re looking to host a retreat in the future, make sure you prioritise getting your Retreat Ts & Cs rock solid to avoid a potentially awkward and uncomfortable situation.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHERE TO FIND THEM:

[2:30]: Situations can become very uncomfortable and awkward if you don’t have Ts and Cs and a participant wants to pull out

[3:45]: Managing the expectations of both parties from the outset can go a very long way towards creating a positive experience for everyone involved.

[4:55]: What Retreat Ts & Cs are. They need to set out all the inclusions and exclusions of the retreat.

[5:55]: The Ts & Cs need to include disclaimers around what you’re promising and not promising.

[7:40]: You need to clearly outline your refund and cancellation policy, particularly what happens if a participant cancels during the retreat.

[9:25]: Be very clear on your dispute resolution process

[10:00]: Photography and confidential information clause. Obtain consent from participants to appear on any social media and marketing

Hi there! I’m the founder and head architect behind Creative Process Collective, as well as owner and designer over at January Made Design.  You can guarantee I will greet you with an over the top smile and talk your ears off about all things creative, small business and probably pets (everyone loves pets). Serial over-sharer on social media, you’ll be able to find me most days sitting at my trestle table working away with a green tea and surrounded by too many house plants and most likely a cat stretched across my keyboard.
