#44 In conversation with Emma McQueen

Finding the right business coach who aligns with your values can be quite a task for business owners. There is so much content to wade through on social media - how do you know who you can trust?

It’s my privilege to introduce you to my guest today, Emma McQueen. She is a Business Coach,  a person I’ve gotten to know in recent years and I can say hand on heart, she is the real deal. I’ve attended Emma’s value packed events and have also had the pleasure of working with her in a legal setting.

In this episode, Emma talks about how she helps her clients through overwhelm and analysis paralysis. She shares what drives her and why she isn’t letting go of one-to-one coaching because of her love for building a lasting relationship.

We also talk about Emma’s experience working with me to produce a set of legals that reflected her personality and Emma shares the best and worst business advice she has received.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHERE TO FIND THEM:

[2:00]: There can be real blocks for small business owners reaching out to a coach because it’s hard to know what is real or not when you look at Instagram

[3:30]: Emma started out in corporate then worked 12 years in not-for-profit. She has coached thousands of clients.

[4:20]: Emma talks about what drives her and how she loves the idea of tapping into someone’s potential to help them achieve their dreams.

[5:45]: One of the things Emma helps clients with is getting them through the overwhelm, which is a common struggle for many business owners.

[6:50]: Emma asks the question: What’s the one thing you can do? If you have too much on your plate, it can lead to analysis paralysis.

[8:40]: Emma is continuing with 1-1 coaching because she knows the impact it can make. Emma shares the different ways to work with her.

[10:10]: Signing up to Emma’s 2 hour sessions is permission to stay focussed on what she needs to focus on.

[10:45]: You have to carve time out to work on your business, not just in your business.

[12:00]: One of Emma’s strengths is that she is a relater. She likes the depth of relationship and going on a journey with someone.

[13:00]: Emma worked with Tracey to get her legals done and she really wanted her personality to come out in her documents. Tracey encouraged her to get it down in black and white and then allow flexibility.

[14:50]: Educating and empowering is at the core of what Tracey does.

[15:50]: Tracey made the process easy and Emma was wrapped with the whole process.

[16:45]: If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life and that’s the case for Tracey.

[17:00]: Emma doesn’t refer people to businesses if she doesn’t believe in them but she has referred numerous people to Tracey because she knows she will take care of them.

[18:00]: The best business advice Emma has received: Surround yourself with the right people at the right level at the right time.

[18:40]: The worst best business advice Emma has received: Advice from well meaning people that doesn’t align with your values.

[19:15]: Emma shares a story of when she was 15 and wanted to be a mechanic but her dad said no. Her advice to her younger self would have been to back herself more.

[21:00]: Tracey’s advice to her younger self would be to back herself to have the courage to do things that align with you.

[21:44]: 10 years ago, Emma wouldn’t have had enough experience to do what she’s doing now but it feels like the right time now.
